Yogyakarta, November 2025 — On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the accreditation assessment team from LAMSPAK (Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Sains Politik dan Pemerintahan) was welcomed by the American Studies Graduate Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). A significant step in the accreditation process, the visit demonstrated the program’s commitment to upholding high academic standards and ensuring the quality of instruction, research, and community service it provides.
The assessment was conducted by two appointed assessors: Prof. Dr. Sofa Marwah, S.IP., M.Si., and Dr. H. Adi Suryadi, M.A.. Their arrival at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences was warmly received by the academic leadership team. During the opening session, the assessors met with the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Setiadi, S.Sos., M.Si., the Head of the American Studies Graduate Program, Dr. Aris Munandar, M.Hum., and the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Nur Saktiningrum, S.S., M.Hum..
A presentation of the program’s academic profile, curriculum structure, accomplishments, and development objectives began the visit’s full day of evaluation activities. The program’s goal and mission, research output, international collaboration, and methods to improve student learning and professional readiness were all covered in the session. The assessors conducted several targeted interviews and verification sessions throughout the day. In order to assess instructional strategies, research culture, publication productivity, and community engagement programs, they met with faculty members. The multidisciplinary nature of American Studies and its ongoing effort to connect theoretical knowledge with practical challenges like culture, globalization, politics, and media were highlighted in the conversation.
In order to obtain firsthand information of academic experiences, learning settings, and graduate career outcomes, the assessors also conducted separate sessions with current and alumni students. Alumni emphasized how their academic skills such as critical thinking, cultural literacy, and analytical abilities have prepared them for a variety of positions in public service, higher education, international organizations, and the corporate sector. In the meanwhile, active students discussed chances for both academic and extracurricular growth, teacher support, curriculum relevance, and classroom instruction. To make sure that reported performance indicators and on-site proof aligned, documentation verification was done in addition to academic and testimonial reviews. This involved looking through student activity documents, research reports, lecturer portfolios, and academic records.
The assessors provided their overall thoughts and preliminary observations during the closing meeting that followed the accreditation visit. They conveyed gratitude for the program’s robust multidisciplinary foundation, fruitful academic culture, and committed faculty and student body. After a thorough review, LAMSPAK will formally disclose the final assessment results. In order to improve educational quality and bring the American Studies Program into compliance with both national and international academic norms, the accreditation procedure is crucial.
